I fell in love with Statik Selektah's production many years ago but it seems like he does not put much effort into a full album. Comment: This shyt is hot. I don't care about how static makes beats. They sound hot. Loops are hip hop. Primo, Pete Rock etc all use loops. These beats make your head nod or at least tap your feet. Terms lyrics above average, not necessarily elite but good enough with varying subject matter. You backpackers only like abstract rap that sounds like freestyling anybody can do that. Try and make a song. I'm 39 from the Bronx I know what I'm talking about. |

I have always questioned how statik selectah has gotten as far as he has due to the fact the he literally takes ultimate breaks and beats cuts em up and throws em on a loop completely unmixed (im not even sure he compresses his drums)its just lazy and embarrasing that he holds the torch as of right now for boston hip hop. theres dudes in the boston area far more qualified to be representing an already questionable hip hop scene in a city where there is only hate and no support through fellow artists it just amazes me that this is what happens to seep through. check out INSIGHT or RAIN or MR LIF to name a few. Statik is putting in work, and anyone who says otherwise needs to stick to the dumbed down bullshit, with the same old sounds. Statik is a true original. That being said, a couple tracks on here were rather lackluster for the standards 1982 have already set. Some pretty bad signing on a couple tracks, and the inclusion of Mac Miller is just.....well......I lost respect there. Mac is a joke. Keep him off albums in the future. The kid is trash. Period. C'mon fellas...you're better than that. |

Comment: after about 3 spins, I thought it was pretty decent, but I actually have quite a bit of issues with it. I liked all the beats except Track 3. and the girl singing at the end of track 3 and 4... she needs to stop. she's terrible. Termanology is pretty ill, but his song concepts were a little cliche and boring. he spit some straight bars every now and then, but he just got old after awhile. and if Mac Miller can outshine you on a track, you're doing something wrong. some of the beats were fantastically good in my opinion. Right Now and the song with Lil Fame are probably my favorites... possibly some of my favorite Statik Selektah beats ever. overall the beats are what make it so listenable, but i've heard much much better verses from Termanology. i'm pretty sure he was outshined on every song with a guest feature. it's a good thing Reks didn't hop on any tracks, Term would've been destroyed. he was a pretty off on this project. but I liked the beats on this one a little more than on Straight No Chaser. the only difference I was feelin Reks on all the songs... I wasn't feelin Term on all of these songs. |
