Comment: Okay, finally picked up the album from Everybody's Records here in Cincinnati. I love it. My favorite song has to be the first one, Reputation. I love how Apollo made that sample sound especially the hook. I have grown to really appreciate Guilty Simpson over the years. He keeps growing on me more every time I hear him. Detroit as a city seems to be on decline, but their music is better than ever. RIP to Jay Dilla.

Comment: The OC album is incredible but Dice Game edges it out imo. Not comparing lyricism because OC and Guilty different types of lyricists - just thinking the production is more hype and soulful to my ears. Plus Guilty's got such a strong presence and delivery that it works for me. Both records are in my Top 10 for this year along with Kendrick Lamar, Alchemist, Sean Price, Oddisee, Roc Marciano, Large Professor, Killer Mike.

Comment: Best album since sliced bread. One Man, Ink Blotches and Nasty is my favorites, but the whole album is solid like a diamond core. Apollo Brown has his own original style in beat making. You can trace back that to earlier album projects such as The Left, Daily Bread and Trophies among others. Guilty Simpson brings his rhyme skills to the table and delivers a raw, honest, strictly mc'ing no bullshit real fucking hip-hop lyric to the album. Hope to see more of this. And I look forward to see Apollo live the 14th of December in Stockholm.

Contemporary Classic - I bet even DJ Premier is listening to this LP all day long, thinking this will be no. 1 on my 2012 best-albums list. Comment: Okay, I called my local mom and pop's record store and they still don't have it in!!! I refuse to listen to the stream because I'm a geek and want to wait until I actually get the cd in my hands. As far as the sampling debate. I can respect both sides. Within any space of people cultures form, rules form. The same person who says it is okay to sample anything you want any way you want might just as easily say that rappers should write their own raps and not let other people ghost write them. It is all love to me. I just feel like we ought to let our feelings be known, have a little conversation about it, and keep it moving. Well, I guess that's what's happening here though. Good enough. Again, it's all love especially when I get my hands on this album. I am a huge fan of both Guilty and Apollo Brown!!!!!

Comment: Trophies is a hard act to follow but Apollo Brown did his part on this one. People complaining about the samples sound like those old guys who listened to the original artists when they were first sampled. Apollo Brown has a sound and it is his sound take it or leave it. Comment: The argument over who flipped what sample first etc. is one of the things I dislike about hip-hop. Doesn't matter who sampled which song first, the point is that hip-hop, from a musical standpoint, is built largely upon borrowing from other existing pieces of musical work. Just about EVERYTHING has been sampled a billion times over. Can't believe beat makers have the audacity to make an argument over this. Just imagine how the proprietors of the original songs feel. Sample selection isn't about 'one-upping' another producers work, but the connection established between the music being sampled and the one listening. Jesus Christ, man. Relax. Wow. In regard to the dice game album, I feel it is a beautiful and outstanding body of work.

Comment: I have not heard the album yet and I agree with a lot of what Keno said. For me what it comes down to is one simple question "am I entertained by this song/album" If the answer is yes then I really don't care too much about the rules of sampling. I can respect Keno and others I know who have a similar view of sampling. I simply feel you like what you like. And if you don't like it, it don't mean that your hating. That sounds common for some reason.

Comment: oh, so you went and threw a fuck you out there. good for you. pretty tough. lol. if you read my review correctly, ya'll would see I said nothing about not liking this, however, I dont respect reuse of classic samples. no matter who it is, or when it was done. I cant help but think of the other tracks that used the sample and have a place in my past. most hiphop is sample driven, so the sample creates the sound/vibe of the track. you would only use it again for two reasons... either you think you can do it better or you cant find better samples. its disrespectful either way. unless you chop a completely different part of that record, which was not done here. he flipped them the same! just has harder drums. most of ya'll, seem to be apollo dick riders. im not saying dude is not a beast, he is, but he has one style. all big chops and hard drums. I do love the sound. trophies was ill and the left album was really dope too. I PURCHASED both of them. probably more than most of ya'll defending this topic could say. I feel apollo didnt need to use known material. it aint hard to find something else. or wait, no... I forgot it would be cool to just re-use all the samples used by the best founding hip hop producers. sorry but thats wack. besides those five songs, album is dope, im buying singles off this and not supporting the album as a whole. bitch. haha.

Comment: who gives a fuck if those samples were used before or not? it still sounds like an Apollo Brown's beat! I swear, nothing is worse than so called " hip hop connaisseurs"... you guys are too complex for your own good... enjoy the music and if you don't like it, then own up to it instead of finding bullshit excuses for not liking it... thats the dumbest shit I seen on this site so far... the real architect isnt the one who flipped the beat first, its the 'musician genius' who invented it from SCRATCH! other than that, terrific album, Apollo is the most consistent producer right now. live with it! favs are 'reputation' 'truth be told' 'i can do no wrong'.... 'the cook up' and 'nasty' are certified headbangers!!! 5 stars. no less. fuck you. stop whining. see ya.

Comment: Bangin' album front to back. One of my favorites this year. Guilty is ill. Apollo's flips are dope. And for these super diggas, that's the game, it's not who's first - it's the style. I dig his flips. Besides no one complained when Jay-Z flipped that one that Biz had already done it. And no one complained when Brother Ali did it 5 years later, or Jim Jones 8 years later, or Sean Price a year or so ago. Or a million other less cats. Why? 'Cause Hip-Hop is about how you rock it - and Apollo is straight killin' em. Not to mention Guilty and him just got Detroit chemistry. Diggin' out the rarest record from your thailand trip is cool, but nothin' wrong with takin' something classic like Foxy Brown or Yvone and makin' it fresh for the new cats and the ol. Detroit's AOTY.

Comment: Man, I just listened to the snippets and this album is without a doubt ridiculous! Dude, quit wining, there's only 3 samples on the album that have been used, not to mention used over 10 to 15 years ago. As far as I'm concerned, I'm glad to hear Apollo rework these! Finally, someone has! People are always gonna have something to say, but this is great fuckin hip hop! People can't just say that a good song is a good song, or a good album is a good album. We siit here and overanalyze every fuckin thing. Those who criticize, usually can't do. Top 3 album of the year, easily.

Comment: i just listened to the snippets on amazon... I dont get it.. is it suppose to be a homage to samples already used? most of the samples used for this album have been used by others, some for classics. either apollo is running out of material creatively or its a homage thing. I dont know. I know its hard for me to appreciate a song using music that already has a place in hiphop. its dope otherwise, chops are tight and guilty comes off but I might not buy it due to the reuse of samples.

Comment: Can't wait, would be dope if it was as good as trophies or even better if it was as good as The Left album. I got faith in Apollo, one of my favorite producers.

Comment: YES!!! Fuckin hyped for this one. I wanna hear some more raw gritty beats from Apollo, like "Frozen" from the Gas Mask album.
