Comment: A few years back, I had the good fortune of watching Jazzy Jeff rock the crowd as the opener to a Lord Finesse of DITC birthday bash. The whole event was dope, but Jazz really set it off that particular evening. I knew he was a great technical DJ. I knew he put in work behind the production board. I knew he catered beats to various styles of emcees (CL Smooth to Freddy Foxxx). I knew he was just as suited for providing the sounds for R&B and soul cats. But that night I gained even further appreciation for Jeff as I learned he could kill the crowd. I mean even on this epic night, he outshined them all with his bonkers set of countless classics, spanning the first three decades of hip hop. Finesse, Pharaohe, OC, Brand Nubian, Fat Joe. Even Cormega’s special guest appearance when he killed the acapella. On this track, Jazz once again pushes the envelope and proves there seems to be nothing he can’t tackle. Going solo, he caters the beat to no lyricist as he proves he can make a track stand on it’s own. BossyNova, reminiscent of Dilla’s Rico Suave Bossa Nova from the classic Welcome 2 Detroit, transcends the listener, taking her/him to the streets of Brasil on this bossa nova tinged joint that has me wanting to sip evening cocktails in some classy NYC lounge where I will immediately feel I no longer belong once this track ends. |

Summary: Nice Mix
Comment: What really makes this track hot is how it is mixed. It is a little hard to hear with these low quality samples, but if you listen closely; you can hear some instruments only come out one side of the speaker. Jeff's beats are always mixed well. You can hear he is a pro at what he does. The performance sounds hot too; very creative. The beat changes up a little so you don't get bored. Jeff, as always, does it again. The only reason why I the lyrics a 1 is because there are none. You know what, I'm gonna give the lyrics a 5. Even with no lyrics, it still outshines 99.9 percent of the lyricists out today! |
