Comment: When J. Dilla delved into the more obscure aspects of his massive beat repertoire the results were almost good, but always fairly strange. "Wild" follows the Donuts example, as Dilla mashes a collection of seemingly disparate sounds – a high pitched child, a rolling timpani, and what seems to be some kind of humming noise- into a surprisingly attractive beat, and then it ties it together with the simplest of bass lines. It isn’t standard hip-hop (but really did Dilla ever make a beat that didn’t transcend the genre?), but you can feel the spirit of the artist in every drum beat and it is well worth the purchase. |
