Comment: ALL Jeru fans know exactly what to expect from this cat and this track says it all. His scientific poetry and straight-forward delivery has remained consistent since his first appearances back in the early 90s as an original member of Gang Starr Foundation. The beat on this cut is typical Jeru flavour: Head-nodding, raw, aggresive, beatbox sounding music the Damaja loves to drop lyrics on. I'm not expecting many changes to the NEW LP, it should be similar to the "Heroes 4 Hire" project. His lyrics always get my respect although it would be GREAT to hear a Jeru and DJ Premo track for old time sake. Surprise me PLEASE! | Name: ketchupsamurai (Posted: 10/10/2003 12:24:00 PM) Summary: War...but Raw Backwards!! Comment: Dope single for sure. I seen him recently perform this single here in Buffalo, NY at Baby Steps Hip Hop night (every Thurs @ Broadway Joe's) and I can honestly say that is what made me confident the album will be dope!!!! | Name: Exquisite7 (Posted: 9/28/2003 6:02:00 PM) Summary: Its Alright Comment: Jeru has always been one of my favorite lyricists. His first two albums are classic. This track is okay and Ru's lyrics are on point, but he will never be the same without Premier. I've heard snippets of seven other tracks off his new album and the production just does not move me. Just another reason why Primo is the best to ever do it on the boards. | Name: dexterous (Posted: 9/25/2003 5:29:00 PM) Summary: If You're Expecting Him Return To His "the Sun Rises In The East" Days... Comment: Keep holding your breath. His lyrics wander a little and the beat is nothing special. Having said that, he still has that ill ass style, and compared to the other ish coming out, his return in any form (well almost any) is welcome. | Name: Food Stamp (UGHH Staff) (Posted: 9/19/2003 2:57:00 PM) Location: Oregon, USA Comment: Ahh, you don’t know the feeling that I get upon hearing Jeru’s new 12” “War.” It seems like it has been years since we’ve hear some new Ru, but wait, it has. He comes straight stoical on “War” which literally will take you back to the days of “Come Clean.” With both vigil lyrics and his typical conscious-battle steez the Original Dirty Rotten Scoundrel takes your head off. Even the first line, “War, my skills is this spelt backwards, I perform for the white kids but do this for the black kids,” is clearly quintessential Jeru. Oh, think I forgot about the beats? Nah, Ru’s man, Edd Dontez, who produced most of his new LP “Divine Design,” kills the boards effectively here. Sh*t, really what more would you expect out of D.Original? | Name: J6N (Posted: 9/19/2003 1:52:00 PM) Summary: Ah... Comment: First off I just got to say that I am a fan of Jeru, he is an excellent MC and his previous releases have impressed me, however I can't really say I feel this joint. I mean he came correct and everything...it's just the beat is so boring, so I guess it kind of holds him back. Give it a listen and see what you think, you might like it...but I can't say I did sadly. | Name: mecbar (Posted: 9/18/2003 8:16:00 AM) Summary: So Slept On Comment: What a comeback single. Jeru was and is before his time. This is underground hip hop. | Name: Marked Oddz (Posted: 9/17/2003 9:02:00 AM) Summary: This Cat Is Fat Comment: Jerus always been 1 of my favourite rappers, haven't heard much of him lately and this is a nice return. Beats are good, a bit different to the norm which is nice. |
