Comment: Alright this is just an ill joint all around. At first, I didn’t know what to expect. All I could think was, “Oh snap, KRS-ONE and Marley are doing a new joint together, how far we’ve come from the ‘The Bridge Is Over’ BDP versus Juice Crew days.” Then I gave it a listen. It’s fresh (beat, lyrics, concept) all the way through. Marley, the legendary Juice Crew producer who all sample-based producers can give thanks to when he unleashed a whole new world of potential of the E-Mu Emulator back in late 1981 when he accidentally sampled a snare drum and realized he could then do that with any sound, delivers a dope beat which seems to borrow the melody from some famous Christmas tune that I can’t place. KRS-ONE kills it from the get-go as he reminisces on ‘80’s hip hop and its major players as he and his crew (RIP Scott LaRock) tried to get on. Following in his whole spirit/philosophy of ‘Edutainment’, he both educates and entertains the listener as he blesses us with jewels on the origins and aftermath of the famous Boogie Down Productions V. Juice Crew days. And big ups to KRS-ONE for showing love and acknowledging how BDP has the Juice Crew to thank because at the time the Juice Crew ruled and that battle was BDP’s defining moment that put them on. Also big ups to Roxanne Shante for starting the whole answer record when she went at UTFO for “Roxanne, Roxanne”. She made the beef. Without here, we may never ever have seen a Beef III, let alone I or II. Greatest trilogy ever behind the Major Leagues and Enter the Ninja, Revenge of the Ninja, and Ninja III: The Domination.
