Comment: Zap Mama is more of a world music artist than a hip-hop artist, so I'm not going to talk too much about the production on this one, even though Richard Nichols (of the Roots) is one of the producers on her new album. The beat isn't bad and kind of reminds me of something off of Talib's Reflection Eternal album. This song features Talib Kweli and Common, with the same old rhymes, and ?uestlove apparently, but I'm not sure what he did on the song. At some point in my life I've been a really big fan of all these guys, especially Common, and they've all kind of sold out in different ways for me. Again, this song isn't bad, I think people will definitely like it. It's just not underground hip-hop. Call me old school but I miss Black Star, when Common was Common Sense and when the Roots were called the Square Roots. |
