Item Summary
When the telluric rap from Boston's producer & MC Insight meets the aerials flow and production of Count Bass D, the result is "The Risk Takers". A 100% Hip-Hop album, created as a free exercise, where the only concern is to get the best of one's self, without constraint. Just music, but good music , this is the simple message implied by "The Risk Takers".

A direct music, instinctive, without emphasis, is the common denominator which has lead those artists all along their career. But the convergence doesn't stop here: both share a certain sense of independence and ability to produce and rap. "This album looked like an evidence for both of us, I knew the work of Insight , long before I met him. It's definitely a person who appeals to new perspectives which are going far beyond the music. He's the kind of man who is able to produce a killer beat and in the meantime program apps to make music on your iPhone. Our collaboration is born on this abundance of ideas." Says Count Bass D to portray Insight and the genesis of this album.

"The Risk Takers" celebrates the style of two MC's & Producers, in a mood of positive emulation. "The Risk Takers" doesn't care about mainstream as much as underground. "Those terms are both overworked. They are the reverses of the same piece. Underground is doing the same calculation than the mainstream with its scenes, tags, cliches. We wanted to escape from that. Escape from the revival Rap Jazzy as well as academic Boom Bap which copies the 95-96 years or the muscular "white trash" underground rap. For the last, it might have been difficult, since we are both black..."

So, exit the classic formulas, Count Bass D & Insight have favored a more subtle universe. The tracks are mixed and self-sufficient, showing on different strokes various atmospheres and moods. We can find here what made us thrill on the first Pharcyde or Deltron 3030. An innocence and a certain Hip-Hop classicism which paradoxically get the agreement of all and overtake the divides of the genre. Maybe this is what means having style and brio.

Comment: Two great interesting cats coming together always sounds like a great idea on paper but for some reason this album didnt click for me. Ive been a fan of both since I can remember so I was looking forward to this. Maybe I was just not expecting the "risk" of some new sounds that they employ on this project. There are some great tracks on here but some just sound to spaced out for me (hence the album cover) Im sure some will bump this front to back, but unfortunatly there are just a few too many fast forwards for my liking when I listen to this. Nevertheless Insight and Count no matter what my opinion on this LP is, keep doing it!

Comment: I def like the teamup here in the respect of Lyrics. Insight's production is okay at best. I really dig some of his other beats just to be fair, this one wasn't one though..Sadly Count's 1 beat & Instrolude were my fav beats out of the whole album with Be Rockin it at NO.3. And to be really honest the rest of the beats were just okay to me...Oh well maybe next time fellas. Peace N Blessngs

Comment: This album is amazing and as soon as I found Insight he already had my attention captivated. I like the rapid spitting, intelligent lyrics by Insight with the laid-back style of Count Bass D; it meshes together well imo. Great album.

Comment: Very interesting team up here. It's a very solid Hip-Hop album without question. I just feel it caters a lot more to the Insight area of the musical spectrum. With Count only producing 2 tracks and Insight blazing rapid fire over his signature dusty productions. Just feel like the Count doesn't really belong on this one, y'know? It could have just labeled as an Insight album with some featuring of Count Bass and I'd really wouldn't know the difference. (I guess I just wanted more of a fluid collaboration, felt like I got Count just coming over to spit a few verses over Insight's beats.)

Comment: Fans of Insight, and Count Bass D, don't sleep on this album. I have to agree with $mk, as the two styles are truly different. Insight brings a lot of energy onto every track, while Count Bass D is very laid back with the flow. All in all, I dig this album a lot.

Comment: Got to listen to this album.... It's f@$king siiiiick!! Had the new G Rap as best hip hop record so far this year..this def tops that, I'm 90' thru and thru, this is as close as it gets to that vibe wit this cd, beats for everyone, straight 90's raw, eclectic, chilled, straight epic battle raps... I'm mad impressed.... if this is the how the future of hip hop should sound and feel like... then I'm ready to stop bumpin my 90's ish and look 4ward to more impressive future releases... '11 been a slow year for hip hop so far but top 3 so far...Count Bass D & Insight, Kool G Rap, Large Pro & Neek the Exotic. Peace
