Comment: M.F. Doom is unbelievable when it comes to rhyming, and finding good producers to collaborate with. He's so creative with everything he does, and I give him mad respect. DangerDoom, another album to place on your "classic" cd shelf. | Name: Camalam (Posted: 8/10/2005 11:46:00 AM) Summary: Meets All Expectations Comment: Wow, I can't believe with all the hype and all the anticipation, an album that we ALL deemed CLASSIC before it was even recorded, came through in the clutch and delivered. I'll be the first to admit that I thought DJ Danger Mouse was getting waaaay too much credit for his highly commended Grey Album, which to me was far inferior to other remixes of Jigga's accapellas (i.e. 9th Wonder, Kno, Kev Brown). However, his production on this Cartoon Network Adult Swim project with the masked villain are undeniably immaculate. Vanilla Ice could spit over these beats and come off sounding like the second coming of Eminem. Trust me, they're that good. But when you add Metal Face to an already lethal foundation, a deadly combination is inevitable. Right out the gate MF snatches your ear and never lets go. Of course, what else do you expect from DOOM, we've all grown accustomed to his prominence on the mic, but his ability to sustain that poetic brilliance is quite astonishing. He's officially in a class all by himself. Enough dick riding, as for the album itself, prepare for a hallucinogenic ride. I'm not too familiar with Aqua Teen Hungar Force, Harvey Birdman or Sealab 2021, but for us novices, we don't lose out on all the references. DOOM and Danger Mouse's chemistry is most evident on such tracks as "Perfect Hair" and "Crosshairs", both amazing instrumentals that DOOM flows water like on. The stars come out on this night, with Kweli blessing the up beat "Old School" with a verse paying homage to the days of his childhood and we get a teaser preview of one of the most anticipated projects in hip-hop history when Ghostface joins DOOM on "The Mask", where he kills the horn stimulated Mouse beat. On a scale of 1 to 10, The Mouse and The Mask is close to perfect, a solid 9, if not for Cee-Lo's hook on "Benzi Box" (I'm a hater). Mouse impressed me and DOOM continues to be one of the most celebrated emcees ALIVE. |
