Item Summary
One can't talk about classic 90s hip-hop without talking about Del The Funky Homosapien, one of the genre's more eccentric figures. Though he's primarily famous today for his guest appearances with Gorillaz & Handsome Boy Modeling School, Del has inspired new generations of alternative hip-hop artists with his humorous lyrics, and eclectically funky production values. It all began here with his 1991 album, I Wish My Brother George Was Here.

Del's debut has been heralded as a benchmark album for alternative hip-hop, bolstered by P-Funk inspired beats produced by Ice Cube, (Del's cousin) and featuring the underground hits "Dr. Bombay" and "Mistadobalina." (#9 on the 1992 Hot Rap Tracks chart.) Equal parts clever, thought-provoking, and goofy, I Wish My Brother George Was Here has been credited with injecting some humor and irreverence into the otherwise dour West Coast hip-hop culture of the 90s.

Traffic Entertainment Group is proud to re-issue this classic album from a classic era, so that new generations may be exposed to Del The Funky Homosapien's witty and innovative rhymes.

Comment: Dante Ross signed the best of them and Elektra was where it was at interms of labels at the time, in '91 Del was just 17 and he had a whole fulsome career ahead of him, I was just 13 and always up on watching episodes of Yo! Mtv Raps with my VCR pressing record... like stayin up late tryin to tape underground rap music from college radio stations like kzsu and tryin to get a good reception from the antenna with foil on the lower end of the dial. this album attaches memories for me, maybe about 21 years later now looking back and knowing of this album for so long before Hiero came to be is just a humbling experience just following a culture of Hip Hop from a young age. the love for Hip Hop started in the middle of '88 when I was ten years old. I dont know what ten year olds nowadays do but my experience with Hip Hop was a journey or should I say an adventure. those days without the internet, any information you gathered about music by word of mouth was more exciting and valuable just to only know of and you got it no other way else... no social media etc.

Comment: Classic. I actually love this album and think it had a totally creative and refreshing vibe for 1991. EXCELLENT production, Del is on point lyrically...and just overall fun. Not as good as No Need For Alarm, but then again they are completely different albums, really. But fuck buying this rerelease from Elektra...buy it off Del's personal BandCamp page instead...he'll get more $$$ out of the deal that way, instead of probably nothing from this Elektra release.

Comment: mindyourbiz, I agree. This album really wasn't all that great when it came out and it certainly didn't age well. I didn't even care for the Ahonetwo joint. The album always sounded a bit corny to me. DEL's best album is by far No Need For Alarm.

Comment: Wow, Elektra is bleeding Del dry. "Sorry Del, we're dropping you from the label. Good luck. Oh, by the way...we'll be releasing a B-Sides album and re-release your classic albums in the future and you won't see a fucking dime, LOL"
