Comment: Only reason for the 4 stars is because of the limited number that was pressed up on vinyl!!! My local record to store stiffed me on holding my album secure until I got there!!! Should've thrown a brick through their window, LOL!!!

Comment: Been a elzhi fan for a while and I still say to this day he does not get the respect that he deserves. I hope this album will show that he is just as good as any artist that is in the industry. And he also had the balls to remake one of the best albums ever made and put his own touch to it and make it sound great not to many mc's can do that.

Comment: If you like Illmatic, and you are open to the idea that someone can remix the entire album, then check this out. Elzhi understands the essence of great hip hop: shit seems effortless. Not forcing it at all. Makes you want to clear your schedule, sit down, and do nothing but listen to this shit.

Comment: Wow..this IS the best produced album since the buckwild joint w/ celph..and that technically was produced long long ago..though this is a cover of earlier work what they did with it is nothing short of amazing and this release will fetch lots of money in the years to come due to various reasons..all that being said this is an amazing release .. only knock on Elzhi is , why cant he flow like that on his other joints??Like apples and oranges..very weird.

Comment: Wow this was quite a pleasant surprise, im not to into the whole remaking of albums, but this one came out pretty solid. Fashawn came out with his "ode to illmatic" project earlier this year but Elzhi's version absolutly puts fashawns work on ice, most due in part to Elzhi's well crafted lyrical sprinkles. The production instrumentation has a nice feel to it too, a little reworked in spots to add some new flair. Also like the fact of how some tracks end with a couple of minutes of just the beat playing on. Well done Elzhi, look forward to some new material soon..enjoy!

Comment: I aint talking no shit yo. I am just saying dude go in on that It Was Written thats all Im saying that was the album were I just knew Nasty Nas was nothing to fuck wit. That whole album is that RAW .... Illmatic is a classic and I aint taking anything from it but IWW got super ill flows. Now Stillmatic is another great especially "Rewind" .... That joint blew my mind. That song had heads rewinding that song just to peep the architecture of the song. Nas is the greatest of all time I dont care what nobody says. Im a true head and I got an super ill collection of nice heads from everywhere and I can respect everyone's opinion so like my man Raekwon said on that Fat Joe joint " Now Respect Mine"!

Comment: Word up Jeneral. Big ups to all the heads you mentioned. It's still some good music out there you just have to dig deap for it. Great example, if you mention Elzhi's name to you avarage person their going to look at you like you have 10 heads. It's sad because I think he's one of the greatest in our time along with a few others. But as far as me writing is very far inbetween time. I would say I write a verse once or twice a year haha. It's still in me thou incase I have to take a couple heads off nah mean...Stay up...Eazy

Comment: Ok. Dope album, beats & rhymes were on point. Flow was impeccable as always for Elzhi. Now for my 2˘. Illmatic is an undeniable classic piece of Golden Era hip hop. He's paying his respects to an album that alot of people hold close to their hearts. This can only be true otherwise, emotions wouldn't be running as high as they are regarding "Elmatic". Elzhi took a masterpiece and made it his own by staying true to "Illmatic"'s spirit while giving "Elmatic" it's very own identity. The best way he could show respect is to make an album worthy enough to maybe one day be spoken of as a fitting tribute to "Illmatic" by using it's blueprint to craft his own work of art. "Elmatic" definitely did just that.

Comment: Good lookin' Main One! Like that rhyme you penned below too bruh! Just felt like it was somethin' necessary to express as far as my love for hip-hop music goes! I'm from the South but I can remember and still dig true hip-hop music. Back in the days (87-95' golden era)in Goergia they played all kind of shit from everywhere. But these 25 and under dudes in hip-hop music I can't dig man. Real people respect the art of hip-hop music and the culture. Comment: It's been awhile hasn't it, she said? She's still fine as fuck though. A slim waist, long black hair, a size c in the tits, golden brown skin like Beyonce's, eyes like she's asian or mixed with some exotic shit and a ass so phat when she walked it bounced like jello. Everytime I see her Bonita Applebum by A Tribe Called Quest plays in my head. I know her but she changes every time I see her, at the same time never looking too young or too old either. When I was a kid she was my crush, when I was a teen she was my wet dream, and somewhere around that time even though I had known her earlier she was my first fuck. She was a little bit older than me but she showed me the ropes and taught a n*gga well. I was trying to show off in junior high and make music for her on my keyboards, MPC's, and DAT's, and she got wet as hell a few years later when I hit the turntables...something significant to fingerin' her sexy ass and watchin' her moan. In my early 20's I started losing respect for her and she was just like any other bitch I had disrespected at that time. As I got older I started to see the value of what she really meant to me and I missed her like it fuckin' hurt! Anyway, it's been a long time since I saw her. She walked out of an alley that cold December night and grabbed my hand like nothing had even happened...like the years I stopped seeing her meant nothing to her at all. She took me to this venue and her and I sat at this table. In the venue I could see Red Fox, Luther Vandross, Bob Marley, Roger Troutman, Biggie, Eazy-E, Big L, DJ Screw, Soulja Slim, Michael Jackson, Richard Pryor, John Lennon, Ray Charles, Big Pun, Kurt Kobain, Guru, Nate Dogg, Freaky Ty, Pimp C, Aaliyah, Left Eye, Curtis Mayfield, Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Jam Master Jay and Minnie Ripperton just to name a few. It felt good to see them all again, to remember how they all in some way had an influence in my life as well as hers, but it felt better to see her. She told me that these were some of her favorite people. Oh shit THE SHOW is about to start she said. The crowd is happy and everybody claps loud, but Biggie is the first one out his seat clapping and gettin' teary eyed like he already knows who's coming and right there 2Pac comes walkin' to the center stage waving at everybody for their applause. He daps and hugs Biggie, sits on a stool and says that this next track is dedicated to me. She smiles at me and says this is a surprise I have for you and Pac tells everyone that I always wanted him to do this song on MTV Unplugged...he pauses and says but life has a funny way of showing you things and at that time I'm reminded of his passing and when and where and how old I was when he passed. He's starting to perform "MY BLOCK" not all the remixes but the original and soulful one that he did on "THE SHOW" soundtrack. The one that hits your soul and makes you think about the world and why we have to go through some of the bullshit in life sometimes. Pac shouts out to Easy Mo Bee for the production and starts rhyming. She said she remembered how many times I played the hell out of that song when Pac passed away and how it was a sad time and a loss for me and her. She smiles at me...I can see it out the corner of my eye but I'm put into a trance from the realism and vividness Tupac had from that song and I realize how much I miss everyone in the venue once Pac starts rhyming. I started smiling cause I see ODB and Red Fox crackin' jokes, and Aaliyah and Left Eye kissing Richard Pryor on both of his cheeks, and Nate Dogg is singin' to Ray Charles' music from the piano. Lol, Pimp C is talkin' to Curtis Mayfield about pimpin', Michael Jackson shows Pun a picture of his children and all this is happening while Pac is still performing "MY BLOCK". She shifts my attention from the song to her and tells me that she knows sometimes I wanna give up on her but try not to. She tells me that even though she is reinvented over and over that I still know her...she whispered in my ear and said your heart knows me too and at that point I saw the most beautiful woman in my life. Not the obvious titties and ass and curvy physique she has...when the lust in my eyes winded down I saw a woman. I saw my past, present and future, I saw a classy and sexy grown ass woman and she told me no matter how old I got she would always love me because I still love her. She knew me as a child and watched me grow into a man. She said her soul would always be reborn and that I could see and hear it whenever I reminisced over Pun rapping and could hear Termanology rap now or when DJ Primier cut those dope ass records she smiled and told me to listen to Statik Selektah scratching. The comparison's of Pete Rock and 9th Wonder's music. Or when Aloe Blac sings...she told me to think about Nate Dogg. She kissed me on my lips, told me to close my eyes, and whispered and said whenever I really wanted to find her to just listen. I woke up in bed with my headphones listening to P.H.E.A.R's "I Love Her Again" and I always will. J.U.-ICE

Comment: Dope reviews and respected comments MJG, Cheek, and D-Stroi, what up homboi?! Elmatic was done perfectly with the use of Elzhi's talent like you said MJG and honestly I don't know who else could've paid tribute to the homie Nas' album better than Elz. Will Sessions sound fitted perfectly to what Elzhi was trying to do and accomplish. I dug the way they blended their version of Life's A Bitch with the Gap Band's Yearning For Your Love. Funny thing is I remember back in 93' when I was in the seventh grade how I use to always play Yearning For Your Love after I finished listening to Life's A Bitch. I probably would've paid tribute to Illmatic too cause I'm pretty sure Elzhi was lookin' at from a point like damn...it's 2011 and Illmatic still sounds dope as fuck to this day! That shit was ahead of it's time and I'm pretty sure he felt like we do when we listen to that album! I don't listen to all that bullshit about how Elzhi bit off of Nas cause when he did The World Is Yours, yeah his flow was reminiscent to that of Nas' but I could listen to that song with the beats by dre headphones, close my eyes, and study what the fuck Elz was doing by listenin' to the homie rhyme. I use The World Is Yours to explain what I mean. Elzhi's versus on that song did remind me a lot of Nas and when he made that song. The unique part about it is Elzhi's flow is and isn't like Nas' which is why I think he's probably the best candidate to remake that song. In the majority of that song he rewrote his own versus's while still borrowing minor lines from Nas. His delivery in that song is so reminiscent to Nas' style it's crazy. Elz stands apart from other MC's and isn't trying to be Nas or sound like him...he does a good job just being the dope MC that he is so he doesn't need take Nas' style of flow cause he already has one...I think the audience didn't think he was trying to do that either. The weird thing is before he even did Elmatic I always thought he reminded of Nas because of his delivery of rhyme and his cleverness with words and even stories was reminiscent to Nas. Listen to REWIND by Nas and listen to MORE COLORS by Elzhi. Neither one of the songs are the same but there's a cleverness behind what Nas and Elz were doing when they made those songs. Nas told a story backwards in REWIND and in MORE COLORS (dope as fuck) Elzhi gives you a depiction and portrait of the world he see's through colors (lol, try to count all them shits). Don't know a lot of MC's like Nas and Elz out now but they're definitely in a league of their own. Peace and respect for the 2 homies and their craft! This hip-hop shit is life! J.U.-ICE

Comment: Yo I can tell that heads are comparing this to Illmatic. You cant do that. Elzhi made his own personal version of Illmatic. Heads want to say that he bit Nas?? Where because the beats are sampled??? Come man and to be real some of the songs on this album are better produced and better rhymes. Just being REAL about it. I like Nas but Illmatic to me is a classic but overrated. It is Written is the best Nas ablum. So give the man credit .... Lil Wayne couldn't have pulled it off thats for sure.

Comment: Elzhi is teaching the public emcee skills. This album is done perfectly with his talent, the use of Will Sessions (tweeked it right-just enough). It stayed true to what the album was about while by no means disrespecting it. The only criticism I can see at this point is represent and lifes a bitch cuz they're untouchable. Nas was so gritty and real on that shit. The "represent, represent" used to wild people out and this can't match it. That said, the rest is pure illness and those tracks are fine, too. I didn't think anyone could pull this off this well. Mad respect to Elzhi for the flow and word play. I only wish he'd say "Minneapolis State of Mind!!" instead of Detroit State of Mind cuz that shit is fire. Well done, EL! Will buy this and the next one.

Comment: ok then, who wants gum? lol, people got a lot of hate up in this beeotch, but on the real this album is tighter than a fat womans beaver. The Jeneral is just passionate when it comes to the real hip hop music so I can relate to what hes kicking. As far as this album goes, the rhymes are dope and the beats are gel'd up a little bit to keep that illmatic sense mixed with the new elzhi vocals although I am not sure who killed the tribute better, fashawn or elzhi? Either way this ish is dope and not a waste of dough if you support and cop this. oh btw, Takini, you suck like dyson. The only shit you know is the shit coming out your ass. Save it for the toilet. Every time I see your name up in here its an automatic 1 star for every artist. Who the f*** is good to you?

Comment: ...???...didn't even understand that horseshit you was kickin' in the last 2 reviews Cheerleader bitch. By the way, I noticed you make a lot of queer and gay ass comments...guess you "FEEL SAFE". So if I'm soft for responding to your gay ass shit, then that must make you MASENGIL...that's as soft as you can get there Mr. Pussy. Check this here homie, instead of wasting time thinkin about how to diss me and fantasizing about what the fuck I do, why don't you go douche with the MASENGIL I so aptly mentioned above. I'm checkin' for real reviews from real people who know about real hip-hop and don't change their minds every gotdamn 3 minutes. I give you no credibility in your words cause you earn none...suspect n*ggas usually don't. So do me a favor...beat it, kick rocks, get lost, go play frisbee with your kid brother, go eat a pig's dick with mustard, and quit wasting my time and yours. Now if you'll excuse me my girl read that bullshit you was kickin' and laughed at you for writing it, so now I got ass to attend to...you should try to get some too lil' n*gga.

Comment: @Ju-ice, I was also born in '79, and guess what? Where I'm from, giving someone credit didn't equate to homo shit. That's queens btw. We don't talk tough when we feel safe. Yeah, I listened to the s&w record with pete rock and felt like it wasn't bad as I thought. So "reviews" should be singular genius. Only time that ever happened. @Ju-ice-You got time to analyze my reviews? Go get some pussy, or somethin' damn! Now you want to wash my dirty boxers? Oh wait, you're probably a closet fag. That's why your last comment was so gay. Go 'head, get live on the keyboard. Give the world an example of a soft n*gga.

Comment: Best album of 2011 by far. having the songs fade into the original samples here and there make the album refreshing. makes me appreciate illmatic even more. amazing project from start to finish, hope they go on tour.

Comment: Cheerleada bitch... I'ma tell you like I told the last lil' internet n*gga. Eat one mafucka! And since I was born??? Lol, mafucka I was born in '79 and been listenin' to shit from Schooly D, Kool Moe D, RUN-DMC, 3 Times Dopes, Ultramagnetic MC's, Tribe, Big Daddy Kane, Setsanonic, EPMD, Main Source, Son of Bazerk, and NWA just to name a few, for as long as I could remember so mafucka I seen the evolution of hip-hop from what it was to where it's at now. You aint gotta be a yes man but stop being a bitch or rather a cheerleader n*gga. I seen your reviews before mafucka and n*ggas like you dub the title fuck boy cause one minute you dissin' a n*gga and his album and then you on the n*gga nuts. Go back to the highschool football team and let 'em run a train on ya bitch ass. Make sure you keep them poms poms handy too n*gga! Fuck outta here lil' n*gga!

Comment: Soul9 I hear you. I like when rappers link up with one producer, as opposed to 15 different ones. And j.u.-ice, wash elzhi's underwear on your own time. I'm not a yes man, so if that gets you heated, kill yourself. Voicing my opinion makes me a hater? Fuck outta here. I've been supporting hip hop since before you were born. Pull ya skinny jeans up faggot!

Comment: It's cool, but his previous work was way better. Also I feel this was more of a paying homage/novelty joint than anything. Again, it's cool, but beside el rhyming better than like 98% of the mixtapes coming out, rhyming over old beats(nas or not) puts him in that same category to me. El's still dope, but this isn't all that, sorry.

Comment: cheerleadkilla, he added a twist to the remake by including a real live band and that added to it than just a plain, old remake of Illmatic. Plus, his fans were asking for him to release it, at first he didn't want to. That's why it took so long for it to come out. And these rhymes he used are 5-6 years old. This is ELZHI's decade to shine and I cannot think of a single person who could have done this better.

Comment: Lol, yo real talk (these fuckas got me heated) some of you n*ggas aint never appreciative of shit. Everything gotta be negative with you fucks. Elzhi is a dope n*gga on the mic, right along with Blu, Rashid Hadee, Von Pea, Jermiside, I could go on and on. This is underground hip-hop mafuckas. I'ont see half of you hating ass n*ggas with albums, doin' production, on tv or none of that shit. The closest some of you got was probably a SLAM IT or JAM IT on ya local bullshit radio stations. I'ma show disrespect to you n*ggas that can't look at a hip-hop for the skill and diversity in this but yet run ya yaps about what this n*gga aint or what the fuck he sounds like. Elzhi did something different and showed the utmost respect for a classic album and a dope and respected mc (Nas) when he did Elmatic. Lol, you n*ggas is kickin' Tuesday garbage truck shit man. Comment: Damn cheerleadkilla...you'se a hatin' ass n*gga! Fuck you mean hip-hop is dry as fuck right now?! Maybe that n*gga will do another album with Will Sessions. He just did Elmatic and you n*ggas wan' persecute and fry the dude. Lol, you n*ggas kill me with all this safe n*gga talk and all that fuckery when you know damn well this shit bumps in the whip, the headphones, and anything else you listening with. Damn n*gga, show support and stop hating cause this shit was original and I dare you, fuck boy Lars, or anybody else to respond with some fuckery so I can 1-900-roast-yo-ass. Voice an opinion n*gga and get off that fuck shit!

Comment: No hostility toward elzhi, but the idea. He could have done an original album with will sessions, an I'd have been among the first to get it. Hip hop is dry as fuck right now.

Comment: Bullshit. Nas bit off G rap with illmatic, and now you try to remix something not even original to begin with? Elzhi got skill, but do another joint like the preface. Get off that "safe n*gga" shit that seems to be the trend these days.

Comment: this shit should had never been thought of, should had never been attempted, point blank period. Nas illmatic is one of the greatest albums of all time. Theres a reason why Nas didnt make another illmatic when he could had. A classic should not be fuck with, Elzhi is a fcuken lame.

Comment: Elzhi took a tremendous risk re-creating Illmatic, could be career ending if it didn't come off right. I think he killed it! It musically more interesting than Illmatic due to Will Sessions expansions on the tracks and Elzhi's abilities are on showcase. An amazing tribute that a classic in it's own right!

Comment: RAP BEEF n*gga! Yo Raffael take yo ass back to the Netherrealm with that shit and get off Shaquan's nuts. And Shaquan homie you sound real sour especially when yo ass is suppose to be from Queens and the n*gga Elzhi paid homage to a mafucka from Queens. You say boy-o aint ill but Elzhi is a mafuckin' problem on the mic, so that dick riding shit I'ont even see that. Especially when he rewrote most of his own rhymes to fit Nas' flow on the album with them bangin' ass beats from Will Sessions, which by the way n*gga was DOPE AS FUCK!!! n*gga you act like this dude Elz is copying n*gga's shit all the time and he aint. All he did was show respect to a classic album in his own way. Fuck outta here talkin that dick riding shit and stop being a crab ass hater. Lol, you n*ggas aint original. What was original is that my dude brought a live band in for this album and killed that shit! Maybe you n*ggas should stick with your pop music shit and get off this n*ggas nuts!
