At a time when chasing money supersedes chasing dreams, Detroit's Finale has proudly done the opposite. A former automotive engineer for the Big Three, the Morehouse drop-out decided that he would devote five years to his passion of hip-hop before deciding what his life's calling would truly be.

"That was seven years ago," jokes Finale. With rich histories in both the auto industry and music, he opted for the latter, perhaps a bit more stable in these times. "I wanted things to happen naturally," says the emcee. In his community, open microphones, showcases and emcee battles prompted Finale to mingle with local talents like One.Be.Lo and Guilty Simpson, while winning the respect of producers including Black Milk, Nottz and the immortal J Dilla. The career and personal sacrifice of Finale is captured on A Pipedream And A Promise, featuring the producers mentioned.

Comment: THE best hip hop release in 2009, in my humble opinion. And I completely concur with "Illosoph" on the previous comment - this is lyrically and musically as cohesive as it can get. The knowledge of Finale by putting something like this together is really felt throughout the whole project. This album will be looked back at as a classic in 10 years time.

Comment: This album is a straight "End To End Burner". For those who do not know what that means, it is f@ckin hot from beginning to end. And don't let me forget about the production which is probably the hottest on any album to come out so far in '09 & the lyrics are reminiscent of the good 'ol days when hip-hop was still an artform. This is a must cop situation for any fan of real hip-hop.

Comment: Almost all the tracks are ear friendly. I only had a problem with the last track. It's cool to pay respect to Dilla, but the Flylo beat should've been left alone. The beat is a master piece on its own. Finale's rhymes didn't quite roll smoothly with the beat. At least in my opinion. Anyways, I listened to this whole album all the way through without skipping tracks cause they were all good.
