Comment: The lp demonstrates that not everything that comes out of Mello Music Group is quality. "Forever" is of course the stand out track (10/10 joint!) and if you already have this on vinyl then there is little else here to warrant purchasing the LP. Beats are pretty poor, no real flow or theme through the album just feels like a low budget compilation, which is a damn shame as Gensu Dean is certainly more capable than this. Perhaps he will make amends on his forthcoming 7"? |

Comment: We all know about beat legends like Preemo, Pete Rock, RZA, DJ Muggs etc... since 2000 when commercial rap was killing hip hop, we hoped the real, raw sound would emerge again with a bunch of new school beatsmiths who would either remind us of that golden age boom bap sound or show us how they can evolve the hip hop sound to rise above the shit that pollutes the radio waves. the likes of 9th Wonder, Marco Polo, Bronze Naz and more recently, Apollo Brown have breathed some much needed life in the rise of real hip hop again, others like Kno (of CunninLyguists), Oddisee, Oh No and now Gensu Dean have succeeded in evolving the sound to much more than hard drums and soulful loops. This album is fucking amazing, Gensu crafts some truly awe inspiring beats, technically perfect in it's sound and construction and nearly all the MC's compliment this to a high standard. Please give your support for this album, it might slip under the radar but this album has left a lasting imprint on me. This is hip hop for the future and Gensu along with Oddisee and Kno are a trio who will hopefully continue to evolve and show how versatile hip hop can sound, real hip hop that is. |
