As a big jazzy hiphop fan I was looking forward to this, even when I heard the infamous solar would be manning the boards. Although I was not blown away with the overall product, with more listens it did start to resonate more with me. While not as jazz inspired as the first 3 great releases, it still has a nice chilled out vibe with guru dropping some laid back fun lyrics. While not meaning much compared to 7.0 and 8.0, this was guru's best work in the last few years, R.I.P | Name: dj zonik II (Posted: 12/8/2009 4:28:00 AM; Partial IP: 206.236.54) Location: Boston, Mass Comment: Weak recording next to Vol. 1. Where's the jazz in jazzmatazz? I only hear it in Brownman's feature track "Universal Struggle". Some actually jazz musicianship. Guru choosing him instead of Donald Byrd makes sense in terms of evolving the music. But nothing else on this record makes any sense. R&B vocalists over Solar's half-baked production? This is so far removed from Vol 1.'s true jazz-hip-hop concept (played out or not) it's hard to take it seriously as a Jazzmatazz volume at all. | Name: dj boom bapo (Posted: 11/11/2009 12:13:00 AM; Partial IP: .108.77.74) Location: in the hood Comment: The whole concept of Jazz + Hip Hop is played out.... |
