Item Summary
Get On Down is proud to bring you GZA's Liquid Swords in its most deluxe treatment ever. The Liquid Swords Chess Box contains the entire Liquid Swords album and complete instrumentals, as well as in depth, full color liner notes with contributions from GZA himself, inner jackets and dust sleeves with memorable vintage artwork from the original release, and even a complete full-sized wooden chess set, which can be played on the chess board contained on the inner lining of the box.

In the early to mid nineties and at the peak of his powers as a producer, Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA crafted a distinctive soundtrack at his basement studio in Staten Island. Whether or not he knew it at the time this haunting landscape of dusty samples, sharp snares and menacing urban gloom, would soon become a pillar of hip hop history. These instrumentals, peppered in with frequent interludes of dialogue from the classic samurai flick Shogun Assassin, became the core of the GZA's 1995 sophomore LP Liquid Swords and would eventually be considered by many as each individual's finest work. Cerebral, strategic and precise with his words, GZA crystallizes a range of influences - from chess to kung-fu films to mob flicks and Eastern philosophy - into sharply delivered rhymes. Many would argue there is no greater MC to compliment the RZA's production as well as GZA did on Liquid Swords.

Housed in a sturdy wrapped hard board box with a deluxe magnetic clasp, this edition of Liquid Swords spans across 8 sides of vinyl with the complete album as a double LP and the full RZA produced instrumentals as a double LP. The album features appearances by the entire Wu-Tang Clan, and includes the auspicious debut of Killah Priest on "B.I.B.L.E." Liquid Swords now has the vinyl reissue deserving of a project acknowledged as one of the "100 Best Rap Albums" by The Source and "Top 100 Records of the 1990s" by Pitchfork.

Comment: Not feelin all this hate on Get on Down. The Ghostface Ironman box set was an exact replica of the Nas Illmatic set because they are part of a "Gold Edition Series" of classic records. Having a 4xLP edition of liquid swords with a chess set makes sense for record store day. If you hate it, just pass my man. There are other ways to grab the songs and instrumentals.

Comment: It seems like Get On Down peaked with the OBFCL re-issue. Everything since has been them re-hashing ideas they've already used.

Comment: Is Get On Down out of fresh ideas already? The Ghostface Ironman boxset was an exact replica of the NAS Illmatic boxset. As a bonus to that they offer the already re-released Ironman vinyl as a bundle deal. Now they re-re-re-issue this Liquid Swords album for the 3rd time on their own label with instrumentals and the same chess set and the same black vinyl they've already released once already. I personally don't mind them putting out some gimmicky stuff because sometimes I like it but it seems like they are selling themselves out at this point.
