"higher" kills 95% of any tracks you can name. There are about 7 other tracks that absolutely slaughter the genre. Very few missteps. |

Apollo has his own lane in this game. As for dex, it's nice to hear a producer who isn't trying to make "one of each" to please everyone (i.e. here is one for dancing, here is my version of Dirty South, here is my gully track, blah blah blah). Apollo makes hard beats with soul samples and chops it to perfection! |

We're all well familiar with Mr. Brown at this point as he's musically bitch-slapped anyone who's ever tried to construct a beat the past couple years but god damn! This one is just crazy. Hassaan Mackey not only does justice to the beat but he's making a name for himself as well. These 2 dudes just laid down a classic album. Well done fellas... |

Name: Yiorgo2K (Posted: 8/3/2011 8:39:00 AM; Partial IP: 183.26.166) Location: T Dot Comment: Your right "no name today" my bad, I usually preview albums before I decide to cop them and when I was making this disc for some reason I didnt drop and drag 2 tracks. So yes it is indeed a bit over 40m (still short but still passes my definition of minimum LP length) However, yes true 42m of great music is always better than 72m of throwaway tracks. Anyways my whole point was that in todays digital age I just expect a certain value when I pay for a product when I could easily get it through other means. Ive been listening to hip hop for over 20 years and I still appreciate a nice physical product that I can hold. I will always pay and support good music, although my criteria for coppin has gotten a been narrow these days, still better than spending it on fast food like some! I guess I expect to much nowadays, but dont get me wrong, this is a good album that I will most likely cop one day, enjoy... one! |
Name: No Name Today (Posted: 8/2/2011 4:46:00 PM; Partial IP: 99.146.130) Location: No Place Comment: Yiorgo2K: I don't know what you're smoking - this is a a 42 minutes album, with only 2 guest features. It has only 3 short interludes. That's 12 tracks that are 3-4 minutes each, that's 40+ mins of music - sorry but that's an album. With interludes it's 15 tracks and about 45 mins long. Calling a 15 track project an Ep is mad, especially when 12 are solid full length songs. Each track has 2-3 verses from Hassaan Mackey. That's over 36 verses from Hassaan and over 12 beats from Apollo, plus verses from Sean Born & Finale. Dope album. LP. Even the vinyl is 2xLP - if it take two pieces of vinyl to make the record fit, it certainly is not an EP. Besides, the cost is like 2 subway value meals, worth it and more to me! Apollo is killing it. |
Name: Yiorgo2K (Posted: 8/2/2011 2:43:00 PM; Partial IP: 183.26.166) Location: T Dot Comment: I have been a fan of Apollo for awhile now, I copped the reset, gas mask and clouds and love them all. I was looking forward to this release but ive become somewhat dissapointed. First off this album (perhaps ep) is under 40 minutes. Now im all for quality over quantity and although there are bangers on here there are also just average joints sprinkled here as well. 15 bucks is hard to swallow for 36 or so minutes of work (including interludes) I presume this review section is for the value of the physical CD project as a whole, saying that this is a great EP but as a full length I feel that something is missing. I guess I expect the best from Apollo who has crafted great (future classic)albums in the past that are worth every cent. This is getting some steady play from me, just not enough to warrant a monetary purchase. Apollo keep on wrecking it!! |
