Producer and bassist Headnodic is a musical time-traveler. His exploration into the furthest reaches of rhythm and melody, from golden era rap to 70's fusion jazz, has inspired an original and profound voice in hip-hop. Whether he's sampling, chopping, and re-constructing breaks, or fluently performing on any number of vintage instruments, the aesthetic of a well seasoned crate-digger is apparent. He has collaborated with some of the most influential talents in hip-hip including, MF Doom, Jr. Gong Damian Marley, Brother Ali, Mr. Lif, Lyrics Born, Ladybug Mecca, DJ Shadow, Tash, People Under The Stairs, Oh No, Chali 2na, Zion I, The Grouch, Casual, Mystic, Sadat X, and Del the Funky Homosapien. Trained as a bass player at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Headnodic began to develop his signature style which is inspired as much by session legend Carol Kaye as it is by the stuttered and chopped loops of DJ Premier. It was there that he met the members of what would later become the hip-hop band, Crown City Rockers, (originally called Mission ). He has now furnished the low end for Crown City Rockers for over a decade.
Then, in 2008, Headnodic joined forces with Gift of Gab (Blackalicious) and Lateef the Truth Speaker (Latyrx) to form the indy-hop super group, The Mighty Underdogs.
Headnod now offers his most impressive undertaking to date: Red Line Radio calling upon old friends and new collabs alike he has scripted an album like no other. From the lazily beautiful single/video Movin' On Up featuring a historic reunion of Latyrx to the classic boom bap of Haven't You Heard? with Sadat X of Brand Nubian and Scienz of Life; the progressive angst and rock influenced title track with Moe Pope and Raashan Ahmad to the free flowing instrumental of Russian River. Everything is accounted for: hip-hop, rock, jazz, spoken word, DJing, all kept at a safe combination behind the all overseeing eyes and ears of Headnodic.

It really is a great buy because of all of the bonus stuff. My Red Line Radio CD had some scuffs and light scratches, that damn shit looked used. But that doesnt take away from the fact that the album is worth checking out.

Not worth it to you? even if it's not your favorite album of all time look at the extra mile that the artist and label has gone to put together a collectable piece... I mean seriously $15 for 2 full length albums a 5"? (ddidn't even know those could be made) and a nice package? you can't beat that - this is why indie labels are dying - they are giving away so much and you still wont buy - that stinks - I guess at least you checked it out - its a pretty great album - it def grows on you - I paid out of respect cuz I support these artists

The bonus items almost made me cop this, but considering some joints that are included on the main feature that are just to hard for me to listen through (viles, cough drop, title track) There are some gems however, the puts and othello joints plus many of the instrumental jams are nice, but my guidelines for copin' a physical album is that it must bump from front to back with no itching to fast forward lacklustre tracks (very hard nowadays) All in all i'll stick to my free mp3 version but those who have enjoyed headnodic in the past will like something here... Damn I really wanted that 5inch vinyl but just not worth it for me... enjoy!
