Item Summary
Every King needs his crown, and they don't get much bigger than this. Originally released by Profile Records, King Sun's 1989 debut album XL introduced the world to the Bronx rapper's explosive style, a combination of smooth, party-rocking rhymes and intelligent lyrics inspired by the teachings of the Five Percent Nation. Emerging from an era of legends like Rakim and Big Daddy Kane, King Sun proved with songs like "On the Club Tip" and "Hey Love" that he could hold his own alongside the biggest names in hip-hop.

Out of print for over 20 years, Traffic Entertainment Group, in partnership with Profile and Zakia Records, is proud to present the definitive version of King Sun's acclaimed first album, featuring audio remastered from the original analog tapes, deluxe packaging and two bonus tracks ("Mythological Rapper" and "Christmas in the City") available for the first time ever on CD.

Comment: i wouldnt necessarily call King Sun's album an obscure joint but really a Golden Era gem. was it dookie gold chains or was it african medallion necklaces if you lived it you knew what to choose during that time, the african medallions had a more positive out look even though I wasnt black. I was 11 in 1989 and all I knew that time was doin dolphin dives on dance floors and high top fades, I listened to the concious lyrics and afrocentricism and black activism and did associate with being a rebel at that time at a young age but what I know now that there always has been a cause to the madness in a concrete jungle. alot of kids were emulating that ghetto behavior even in the suburbs of the west coast. I always knew the sun rises from the east, and that saying "it aint were your from but its were your at" (mindstate).

Comment: King Sun was a monster back in the days. His unique deep voice, conscious lyrics and dope beats made his albums must-have material. I question the fact that Traffic keep re-issuing these old school classics though... Don't get me wrong, I love the idea behind it but really... most older cats like myself already have this and on the real how many young cats are going back to the old school?
