It was the final one I listened to out of the series (i copped em all not in order) and was hoping for a bang, but it certainly didnt do that. I've always hated madlibs taste in jazz, personal preferance but still. Im not sure if he mixed these beats or made them himself with his jazz band that I know little about, but this was pretty "okay". It was better than #8 to me. Actually this album doesnt even sound like jazz, more like of a jazz with a trance vibe. It was well pieced together but not my favorite by any means. |

He started as a jazz musician creating sort of breaks. Some of the breaks sounded hip-hopish and he's friends like Wildchild and DJ Romes askt him to do some hip-hop thing. That's when he started creating hip-hop beats.
This way of Madlib music never gets any credits because hip-hop minded people don't like this music.
Top album by the way.
Madlib Medicine show is really great and stop frontin' cause he's one of the last real producers out their. While Premier & Pete Rock loosing quality Madlib is still focused on good music.

Yesterday New Quintet's previous realeses didn't really catch my attention. This one is their best attempt so far. These are no doubt talented and boundary-breaking muscians with no regards for the mainstream. This is both good and bad, good when they create new stuff and bad when it takes it's oddest forms. I think this album manages to balance out these opposites. Madlib prooves that he masters rhythms in all areas. It would be nice to have him focus more on quality than quantity in the future though, a few of the medecine records are not as strong as this one. Big-up for the attempt to launch a new way of displaying different rhythm based genre's! Artwork is always fly. |

If Madlib started to coon out these hater's would be all on his nuts. I notice everyone on this message boards, you have lame ass comments dissing the solid hard working Emcee's and Producer's. Then you have these no name entertainer's/rappers who get this deals and release crap, nothing close to what Madlib is doing. The black man will shine no matter what he has talent and he has proven he is solid. |
