Item Summary
Ask any true hip-hop fan and he can tell you exactly where and when he first heard MF Doom's Operation Doomsday. Against seeming insurmountable odds, the album - bootlegged mercilessly, floating in and out of print on various labels since its release in 1999 gained mythical status amongst music aficionados of all backgrounds as one of the landmark releases of the past decade. At its core, one man, a microphone, an MPC 2000 and a Roland VS 1680. By the time of Operation Doomsday's recording, DOOM was a transformed man: a veteran of hip hop's aging "new school" reinvented as the masked, abstract wordsmith of the NOW. His pointed wit, subtly subversive lyrics and stream-of-conscious flow over adventurous sample-based production created the yard stick by which rappers in the coming decade would measure themselves.

Now Doom's own Metal Face Records will release Operation Doomsday as a special remastered and expanded two-disc set, featuring a 32-page lyric book and a complete collection of alternate versions, B-sides and instrumental. San Francisco-based artist Jason Jagel, who provided the painting for DOOM's "MM...Food", was enlisted to create both an updated version of the album's iconic comic-book style cover art especially for this release. The entire set was produced under the watchful eyes of Doom himself. Expanded and deluxe, this is the complete Operation Doomsday experience.

Comment: Who care's about the value of your limited editions, lunchboxes and shit. Doom's just tryin to get this classic album out there to more people. It's only 15 bucks for a double cd, how can you complain?

Comment: This is why rap sucks: the negativity. Any rapper you dislike "sucks", anyone who disagrees with you is a "twat" or "dickrider." It's all "what have you done for me lately." Don't get me wrong, I love rap, it's all I have ever listened to. But rap fans, on the whole, are mean and unappreciative. I dont care if you're an internet tough guy and you wanna shit on me, but what I hate is that everyone who is not on someone's current top five sucks. Correct me if I'm wrong, but rap music in this country is all about the lowest common denominator. Chuck D said it best, rap music has no infrastructure. And btw, I haven't ever been to a Doom show attended by an imposter. Whether or not he has dicked people over does NOT bother me in any way.

Comment: Here is the deal with DOOM dickriders: We happen to see his creation of this ART as ART. He IS HipHop. I actually wanted to see Rock the Bells THIS year in Boston (Mansfield) but they canceled it... trash. I was going FOR DOOM. His lyrics are the truth and his metaphors are UNMATCHABLE. Truthfully what HE knows and what you call not giving "a fuck about his fans"... is that you bitch-ass fans of "the real" are a bunch of radio edited cock riding image whores. I HATE what fags like Jigga and Kanye have done to my music. It has become something else for them. Do you think DOOM does this $hit specifically for the money???? He fuckin LOVES HipHop which is more than I can say for some of you. The way this impostor $hit was explained is that he doesn’t want you to see him in the street and sweat him because he is DOOM, he wants you to love his music, hence the mask. You came for the music. Let’s not call them impostors, let’s call them tribute “bands”. I will always say that he is the best that ever did it. Not because I dick-ride but because it’s a fact. You will whine about Jigga and Kanye and Weezy (money wise) but does THAT make them dope???? Thought not. They SUCK because they stopped loving the music and know that they can blow smoke made of steam and you fags will buy it. Who is lyrically even CLOSE??? Seriously, listen again. F the shows… F the impostors… F the hype. Find me a better LYRICIST. You can’t. Could be a regional thing but I grew up on and lived this HipHop $hit since the DAY... piss off!

Comment: I tried to see Doom in '08 at Rock the Bells and instead saw an imposter, I like dude's music so I bought this album, definitely worth the price. Hopefully Doom does do some live shows soon but it will only happen when the time is right. I wonder why he does so many shows overseas? Probably because the people are more peaceful and appreciative, what ever happened to the pillars? find me and the true purveyors in the streets spreading positivity...

Comment: The two Doom dick riders below, have you bought a ticket to see Doom and had him not show up to the show? Or better yet send someone in the mask that is a fake? Obviously not. Doom is wack and so are you two twats. If the dude gave a fuck about his fans he should do something to make up for the bullshit he has pulled. Be sure to cop the Doom socks and toothpicks coming out soon.

Comment: Co-sign everything Tyson says. Look, the rap music industry has freaking CRATERED. If you don't believe it, take a look at how little your favorite rap releases of the past year have sold. Even Wu-Tang guys like Raekwon are lucky to even hit 40,000. If a cat like Doom wants to make money off his work, what the hell is wrong with that? This biz aint meant to be profitable to record collectors, its meant to be profitable to the ARTISTS! I know you're all frustrated that Doom ain't dropped nothing new in a while, but that's no excuse to besmirch the man. You know, on rap songs, you listen to these black guys' struggles and tribulations, but when it comes to real life, too many of us are quick to disregard the man behind the music. This is a classic album, and if Doom wants to make money off of it (what a crazy concept, right!) I say, good for him.

Comment: I am giving this 5 stars to up its rating to right about where it should be. What everyone has said here is valid, but I must ask, did any of you actually buy the product? I for one did, and it is really the version of Operation Doomsday that I have wanted for a very long time, and miles beyond that little Lunch Box they released, which in my opinion is hard to add to a collection when you cant fit the booklet in the case of store the CD amidst all of your others. It is true Doom has re released this many time but this is his opus for crying out loud, and maybe Doom himself wasn't happy with the Lunchbox and realized some fans may just want a copy of the remastered and extended album. I am one of those people and truly thank Doom for hooking up his true fans. If you don't like Doom over a re release, you probably never understood him in the first place. There are artists who sell millions of records, Doom is not one of those artists, leaving a re release of his best album as a completely respected and necessary avenue for revenue. Peace to the true fans, fuck the rest...

Comment: Potatoe, potato. Half-empty, half-full. I'm somewhere in the middle but it depends on how you look at the situation. I bought Operation Doomsday when it came out on Bobbito's label but I wanted to buy two lunchboxes. One for a keepsake; one for a conversation piece at work (I'm always ready to dis commercial rappers). Unfortunately, my budget didn't permit that. I still want the instrumentals so I might buy this album. For genuine fans who want an authentic copy, here's your chance. I think that cuts down on the highway robbery taking place online at sites like Ebay and Amazon. Plus, since this will probably also be a limited release, your purchase will quickly appreciate in value. I don't recall Doom dropping release dates like that but I'm thinking that might quell some of the hostility found on this website. In addition to that, maybe having an online survey on his website, that would allow fans to vote for which album they'd like to see re-released would help. As far as imposters and no-shows, that's a different story. Fight promoters notify the fans and the media if a main-eventer is injured and sometimes give the option of a refund,a replacement opponent, or cancel/postpone the event. If my favorite store has a sale and they run out of stock, sometimes I'm able to get a raincheck. If they misprint a sales price or item, the retraction will be posted in the store near the entrance and sometimes it's printed in the local paper. If my favorite action-movie star is making an in-store appearance, I'm expecting to see them. Not their stunt double. If I can't make it to work, I don't send in a replacement to clock in for me. If I don't work, I don't get paid. Now, I could just as easily download and bootleg his material but if this is his bread and butter, I'm out to support him. If I'm displeased with his releases, I don't buy them. I feel my dollars speak louder than I ever could.

Comment: Hey guys, just wanted to let u know that I just talked to DOOM and he actually reads these comments! Calm the F down. The labels re-release these albums b/c they sell and get u tardos talking about him even more. It's the only way for such an underground artist to achieve gold/platinum status over the course of many years. I know that if I already had an album, and I didn't want to buy the re-release, it would make perfect sense for me to still take the time to comment on it. Doom had a new album like 2 years ago. RELAX. I'd like to thank whoever markets these limited edition doom releases b/c they quickly become collector's items. Hell, his Madvillian figure sells on ebay for like 600 bucks! I bought 2 lunchboxes as an investment. Oh, and as listeners, you only deserve exactly what you pay for. The man doesn't owe anybody anything. Be on the lookout for the MF Doom My Buddy...COMING SOON. It will feature 37 buttons that play all the doomsday tracks in their entirety....FOREVER.

Comment: When the original album was re printed(which is still avail), I thought that was cool. When the collector's lunchbox came out, I almost brought it. Seeing as though I got the original album, I could care less from a consumer's respective; however being a fan I would gladly have brought the tin although by the time I had $, it was completely sold out. Oh well. Now I read that another collector's edtion is coming out, same shit of course. The re print, fine, lunchbox, fine, but the fuck do you go and release this bullshit again, and not even go beyond some creative bounds? At least get a live band or something. Better yet, why not a brand new album as people suggested? All those oter names you go by, and you won't at least put out a new Viktor Vaughn? You kidding right? Even after that bullshit back with the imposter, fans still had your back. Damn shame, then ya wonder why people just burn shit off the net. I still bump the albums, but I will not spend another "Dime," until ya put out some new shit. Period. Don't hussle your fans homie. Now for anyone who doesn't own the 1st album, cool...but quit rehashing shit...get in the booth.
