Item Summary
NY's Finest is an upcoming album by hip-hop producer Pete Rock. The album will be Rock's first studio album since 2004's Soul Survivor II and is currently expected to be released in January 2008 through the Nature Sounds label. The first single is "914", featuring Lox members Styles P and Sheek Louch, and its B-side "The PJs" (featuring Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon and Masta Killa). A third track, "Gangsta Boogie" featuring Slum Village, was also been leaked onto the internet but did not make the final cut. As with previous Pete Rock albums, the album features an array of guest artists, and prior to its completion, Rock expressed interest in collaborating with rappers such as Papoose, Method Man, Redman, Fat Joe, D-Block, Lupe Fiasco, Slum Village, MF DOOM, Jim Jones, Raekwon, Masta Killa, Cappadonna & Ghostface Killah. The album also sees Rock rapping on 5 songs.

Comment: Always been a Pete Rock fan and this is tight. The beats are cool but there is something missing in comparison to previous material. In my opinion his best work was with CL Smooth who brought out the best in him and All sold out, Mecca and Main Ingredient are holy grails. Finally to Jim Slade yes that Lords track best kept secret is seriously dope, and by far the best on the album for me too!!!!

Comment: Dope LP Pete! Great work. The people needed this joint right now fam. The industry is fucked as usual, so when a joint comes out like this I consider a breath of fresh air. Thanks for the inspiration and good music. Sean-Toure' producer:emcee

Comment: Pete could do way better. What happened to the bangin' beats that he used to put out?? The lineup is not that great either. Besides Redman and Styles P, Pete would have been better off rhyming himself.

Comment: track 9 - lil' brother joint is probably the roughest joint on the lp... don't expect much in terms of grit... Pete hocked his sp1200 at the local pawn shop for that mp4000 sound... can you say thin drum samples lacking bottom end in a germanic language...oops.

Comment: the 914 song with the lox alone is worth getting the album for. thats a song you can turn up loud on repeat and not really get bored with the sound of the soul brother. the guest appearances are great. you dont need an all star lineup for a pete rock album to be banging.the reggae cut with Chip Fu & Renée Neufville is a banger indeed as pete goes into uncharted territory to pursue a badass reggae tune that delivers. there really is no wrong on this album. if anything, the wait for the album is probably the only bad thing but its well worth it. ny's finest can easily get on most hip hop writers top 10 of 08 (well the good writers anyway). so yes this is solid gold from one of the greatest. my fave cuts are 914 and that song with little brother (pete rock + little brother > 9th wonder + little brother) also that song with jim jones and that reggae cut
