    Summary

Swollen Members have risen to the top of the underground hip-hop scene with a series of classic albums that have made them one of the genre's brightest rising stars. Founded by two of the game's best MCs, Mad Child and Prevail, along with the help of DJ Rob The Viking, Swollen Members have created a huge fan base while staying completely independent under their own label Battle Axe Records. Swollen had taken a break over the past few years while Mad Child dealt with drug addiction and some legal issues, but, the group has come back stronger than ever with their upcoming new studio album "Armed To The Teeth", which features guest appearances Talib Kweli and Tech N9NE.

Comment: These guys inspired me from high school ever since I heard Deep End on NBA Live 2002 and Triple Play 2002 demo. But after this I think it's time for me to find another group... When Black Magic came out I could tell that this was going to happen. I'm doubtful that Daggermouth will highlight the golden days of Bad Dreams....

Comment: Swollen fell off so hard it's like worse than Black Eyed Peas... Tre Nyce is like their Fergie. This album is crap. Example of whack lyric: "I drink a rockstar, cuz I'm a rockstar" oh my god! I mean, it's like so brilliant! *ultra-sarcasm, in case you couldn't tell* If you see this album in best buy, grab a hand-full of them and go stuff them in a washing machine or toaster so no one else can buy them. Barf.

Comment: Fucken terrible. It's albums like this that encourage piracy. No wonder so many fucken hip hop artists are dropped from their label....they produce so many shitty songs. And by the way, who in the FUCK are Swollen Members' advertising too!?? USA or Canada?? Judging by the style of music I would say USA since gangsta rap is so prevalent over here. But what the fuck about Canada?? You're just gonna ditch your home country and become a next door neighbor cock sucker??? Wow...If I were a Canadian I would boo these guys off the stage everytime they performed, until they got their act right.

Comment: I don't give a fuck where they're from, how big their crew is or how hawt babes they have on their videos. Music is the thing that matters, and this album is straight out wack. J-Roc from Sunnyvale Trailer Park should've been a feat on this album, cause he'd outrhymed both Tre Nyce and Young Kazh. "NAWMNSAYINGG."

Comment: - Been a Swollen supporter for a decade now, & was really lookin' forward to a new album from the guys. Thought they would just naturally kill it...but idk what went soo wrong from every angle. The only smashin' track is Red Dragon & it's a track from Monsters in the Closet...wtf, why?! - I'm all for artists progressing & switchin' it up, but I don't enjoy the newish style on them. I mean, I'm not even feelin' Rob's production like I alwaays have...that says a lot. Sadly, It wasn't even worth adding to my collection. oh yeah, & Tre Nyce is a freaking JOKE!!!! All he has is a pocket full of luck...& it neeeeds to run out Fast.

Comment: This album is not for real hip hop heads appreciating innovative art. Note how the people rating it also show a lack in vocabulary and promote violence and their from Canada? WTF?? Poor production, weak lyrical content and considering the wealth of talent out there where the hell did Tre Nyce and Young Kazh come from, they SUCK, no flow and terrible deliver, nothing to say, nothing inspiring whatsoever. WACK. So dissapointed!

Comment: I think way to many people took way to much time out there lives to hate, this aint about Canada and US hate, if u wanna hate dont hate over the net, fake thugs. Anyways album wasn't too bad, I like it, not as good as past shit but has some bangers, gotta represent for the Kingsway bandits. And just for some knowlege for the US people talkin about guns. Just cuz you can't buy much guns legaly here, unless for gun range or hunting, dont mean alot of shit aint commin off the docks. "Armed to the Teeth": Known for bein a biker quote, they reppin the most notorious gang that runnin Vancouver, and that aint nothin to disrepsect.

Comment: I think a lot of people are being a little harsh on this album. It's not COMPLETE trash. There are a few good tracks,Meltdown,Kyla,Concerto, and a few others are not bad at all and sound like there old shit.NOW...the track, Real PI, for example..is a fucking embarrassment to everything that was and is.. left of real HipHop.Wtf were they thinking? That shit is straight up everything I hate...Do yourself a favor SM's, lose your jiggy little friend Tre Nyce and anyone else that tries to change your sound to "whats hot now"...I understand wanting to get payed but that's just a big fuck you,..not just to your real fans but Hiphop as a dieing culture as well. On that note, you eat a dick for that shit, 3/5 stars.

Comment: there last two albums were weak but this is straight sell out material. surprised? no not really. if you have ever seen there videos you would know they were headed this direction. all the way back to the Bad Dreams album. they are aware of what they are doin, which is why they tried to throw in a few tracks for there hardcore fan base. yea they are talented but who cares when they are wasting it. Comment: I agree that this isn't the regular Swollen we're all used to. I've been listening to them since the beginning, and I have so much respect. They have had some amazing stuff, and some not so great stuff. Some of the tracks on this cd are actually quite good, but yeah, some of them are completely ridiculous, with the auto tune and lyrics I never thought I'd hear from them. But what's with the bashing? These guys are still absolutely amazing, always throwing it down, and they give an unbelievable live show. Maybe this isn't the same as what we love on Balance and Bad Dreams, but things change people. They made something different, doesn't mean they aren't talented. This definitely isn't my favourite album, but I've supported Swollen from the beginning and I'm not going to stop because of a few bad tracks. Battleaxe warriors bitch!

Comment: Been a fan from the start. WTF happened? "Hoes I line em up, Its no secret i'm a thug" WOW thats madchild? and the autotune is rediculous. Most of the time even if the album is garbage I will buy it to support underground artists that I have been a fan this long but I can't with this album. "Bad Dreams can kill ya" This ones a nightmare!! Bring back the old Battleaxe style.

Comment: I agree with most of these post! I ripped into this album excited to listen to some classic Swollen shit. Instead I am treated to Autotone! and them claiming their pimps and spending g's on rides? what the fluck, I had to check the cover twice. There are couple tracks which are tight the others I gave a few tries to listen to but I can do it, I might as well listen to the radio.

Comment: I have been listening to Swollen since day one and have every album release and most 12"s. They have crazy talent, that is without doubt and certainly know their business. BUT this release is absolutely awful!!! They are either (a) trying to hard to push the boundaries and have lost focus (b) caught up in a style and delivery that is simply damn right shockingly crap. Its hard to listen to Prevail and Madchild delivering such limited lyrics with awkward flows when I know damn well they have skills to rip tracks apart. As for the production, I rate it on the same level, poor, unimaginative and lacking creativity. This is a serious 'loss of focus' album and is not due to me un-accustomed to change. My whole crew and I have been down with these boys through thick and thin (Heavy was shite also). It really doesn't help having the appallingly weak duo Tre Nyce and Young Kahz so much, to think Madchild started with such ill collaborations i.e. Q Bert and now who the f'k are these 2? What happened to the misguided angel in 'Strength' and prevail busting about readin literature to improve his verses? Wasted! This album and their delivery to me is the same as what all the current wack rappers are doing now. Swollen, sort it out and gate back on track!!!!! Terrible!

Comment: strange, some tracks are true true S&M, others are true sh*t. as most have said if Porn Star, Bollywood, and Real PI were left on the cutting room floor I would give it the full 5. and dude...autotune!? isnt that the complete antithesis of what these guys stand for. Trey isnt horrible when he spits(better than most of the rhymers out now at least) but im not feeling that Auto tune and pimp stuff. worth a buy and I am eager to see what happens next. Heavy Metal was an odd one and then Black Magic killed it so maybe we're in for some fire

Comment: Surprisingly, It wasn't as bad as I thought. Compared to other wack albums that had been released. There were only 4 skippable tracks. Porn Star, Bollywood Chick (only listened to it cuz it had Tech N9ne), Flyest & Real P.I. it's a good album tho I understand why people don't like it. BTW fuck you Jason Vorhees, we got Grych, D. Black, Common Market, Dyme Def, Blue Scholars, Jake One, Vitamin D and a whole lot of talented artist.

Comment: this cd would sound like a regular s&m relese if it didnt have tre nyce. they need to stop with that vocoding, its making them sound like they make there music based on what the masses are currently in to at the time. by all means this cd isint all that bad, some tracks do have that classic swollen feel to them. but all the new soundtracks are terrible and are really bringing the group down. and whats up with some of these tracks not being produced by rob? how you gunna call it a swollen members cd and not have your producer produce all the tracks. god damit swollen.. another one to throw with heavy.

Comment: First off I love Swollen Members music. I have been listening since Balance and have purchased every album they put out. Everyone has been great but I'm not sure what happened here? They have auto-tune choruses and rap about $300k whips? Their new pals they bring along do nothing but bring down the album. Plus Red Dragon is like 7 years old, why is it on here? This is not the Swollen Members true fans are used to. I think they tried to make a "commerical" sounding album mixed with way too much of a rock/metal sound (which can be awesome but sounds forced on this record). I am very disappointed & hope this was just a misstep and their next effort will be back on track. Sorry guys put this is a major fail!

Comment: In my opinion. probably their worst cd. not sure who this tre nyce guy is...but he sucks. Black magic was one of my favorite cds of all time and I am pretty disappointed that this came after it. They should stick to the core of prevail madchild and rob the viking. Real P.I. is a horrible song. tre nyce sounds like lil wayne and that disturbs. lets make the next one as good as all the others Swollen!

Comment: chill with all the ignorant talk about america being violence whores (even though we are) blunted righteous faggot. these motherfuckers are sporting ak47s on their cover. if it's an album about life and growing then why would they need to use guns on the cover of their cd? for marketing purposes? no, I love swollen and i'm from the u.s. i've bought all their fuckin cds as I do with all underground artists because I swear to god I feel this shit in my heart and soul. so fuck off dissing a whole country you canadian fuck. I know what swollens about and I know that if their unique (which i've loved for years now) style were to change I will get down with it like I did cage's new one. it's hip hop it's soul music, REAL people cross (english) :) borders with this shit. it don't matter all that matters is that it got soul. p.s. I like can-i-bus too, buddy!

Comment: just cuz some amaricans are closed-mindend and ignorant to anyone taking america's hiphop culture and ADVANCING THE INTELLIGENCE LEVEL OF THE MUSICAL MASTERY to futuristically infinite levels, DOESN'T mean canadian hiphop groups suck, or that we need american acceptance. THESE GUYS ARE SUPERSMART. better than most american groups. i know prevail and madchild personally and they are all about business/lyrics and culture. not money and record sales Canada has smarter people, but less of a population and less weapons of death/less money. BUT MORE SPIRITUAL ARTISTIC SKILLS AND MIND SCIENCE. so say what "y'all"....someone will take america out of having THE BEST hiphop, one day. and it'll probably be us. CANADA ['america jr' -like homer simpson says] I BET IF CANADA HAD NUKES AND HAD A BIGGER ARMY THAN AMERICA, THEY WOULD SAY WE GOT BETTER HIPHOP IN CANADA. you silly americans only know VIOLENCE and STUPIDITY. if we're not pointing guns in your face, we're bad musically. uh... here's a tip-LIFE IS BEYOND MURDER, HATE AND DEATH, eh?..... but desensitized to knowledge and love would make your country the way it is [doomed to self-destruct....like 50cent's new album]
