Summary

At the pinnacle of the independent hip hop movement, Oakland's The Grouch and Los Angeles' Eligh formed the duo G&E. Hailing from the Living Legends collective, the pair first forged a brotherhood that led to music. "The first day I met this guy, he wanted to get in the studio and create; I had some equipment. We ended up back in my basement sampling vinyl and recording songs. I don't do that with just anybody," recalls The Grouch, who has worked with legions of artists as an MC and producer. Fast forward many years later, The Grouch & Eligh have cemented themselves as salient artists who have maintained legions of loyal fans across the globe while consistently releasing music that stays true to their roots, yet remains relevant in today's ever-evolving landscape.

March 4, 2014 marks the triumphant return of this classic duo with their TRIPLE-DISC album, entitled, "The Tortoise and The Crow". The album consists of one BRAND NEW solo album from The Grouch, one BRAND NEW solo album from Eligh, and one BRAND NEW collaborative G&E album, which is a format that has never been done before by a rap duo. The album contains heavyweight features from Slightly Stoopid, Pretty Lights, Ant of Atmosphere, Zion I, Kreayshawn, Blu & Exile, Pigeon John and more.

Comment: +.5 album of the year candidate in my ears so far, the entire project seemingly lifted from the organic poetry to the melodic respect of hip hops standard.

Comment: When I sing the chorus in that Fireflies song in the above video, I am a huge corny cheese ball. Why did I think that sounded cool/good? I was overloaded with drama of the insect known as the firefly and I am embarrassed and deeply sorry.

Comment: WOW this triple album deserves a few decent reviews. I can except 3 stars but 1? That's unreasonable. Especially when one of the people bellow admitted to not even listening to all 3 discs. First off I think we can all agree that the track 'Run' could be missing from the project entirely and nobody would care. In all honesty it sounds like a track tailor made for the radio and to get radio play. I hate it. Haha secondly there is a couple skipable tracks. Of course there is lets see someone else put out 41 straight tracks of mind blowing heat. Not gonna happen. Back to what STOKANATOR said that this album grows on you. Yes it does! I'm even starting to like some of the songs that I didn't necessarily like at first. Now with all that aside there is a bunch of tracks I really really love on here. And I found that if I take all the tracks I really really like and make my own little album out of them I have a 16 track album with no skipable tracks that's absolutely unbelievable. The songs I like I like a lot and the ones I don't are well....skipable. Now I really like 'All These Lights'! Let me tell you I was lucky enough to catch Grouch & Eligh in Vancouver a few days ago and when that song came on it damn near tore the roof off the venue! People were going fucking nuts! Does this sound like a 1 star track to you? Naw haters gon hate and it sounds like the people who reviewed this and gave it one star have absolutely no patience whatsoever and just skimmed it quickly. This brings me to Eligh's disc. Love it. Always been a huge fan of this guy for years and years lets not forget this cat writes and produces pretty much ALL his own stuff and yes he wrote and produced his entire album here. Anyone who can MC as fierce as my man Eligh and also be that good at the production aspect deserves nothing but respect. Let's see you do it. Exactly. Love his verses as usual and I really love the instrumentals he made for this as well. Probably made for a more mature audience as things like jazz elements are intertwined. Either way the beats are phat and Eligh definitely has an ear for production. All in all I give this triple album 4 well deserved stars but I'm gonna have to give it 5 to boost the rating because what it has right now is simply unfair. I like this project and it is still getting a fuck load of play be me and my friends. Smarten up people. Chances are if you didn't like this album it wasn't made for you. And If you are a true Grouch and Eligh fan you'll probly LOVE THIS! Well hope my review was useful to someone somewhere. Peace.

Comment: Wow! Just Wow! One thing I will admit is I did not fall in love with this album immediately like I did the Say G&E album. With 41 tracks it can be a little overwhelming making those tracks that don't catch your ear right off the bat a quick skip to check out the next song. If any of you asked me for my opinion on the release day of the album I would have had a similar reaction to many of the other posters but I stuck with the album and it has grown on me exponentially and although I'm not ready to say I like it as much as Say G&E, I'm also not ready to say it not as good either. Few if anyone can actually pick up on all or even most of the lyrical content the first few times they listen to this album but now that I haven't listened to anything else in a couple weeks, I can say without question lyrically these two haven't skipped a beat! In my opinion their biggest mistake I believe the duo made was releasing the single "Say Eligh, Say Grouch" as one of their first singles from the triple album. It sounds way to much like the fan favorite "Say G&E" single from the last album

Comment: Letdown. I will have to mix and match my favorites off this 3-disk album and make my own album. Far too many throwaway tracks and the overall quality is lacking. "Run" sounds like a song they will perform on the Ellen Degeneres Show and every mom in the audience will get a free copy of the album afterwards.

Comment: I love The Grouch & Eligh. Their last album 'Say G&E!' was fantastic. Their new 3-disc album is a pretty big step down though. If they had boiled the 3 discs down to one, they'd have a pretty great project, but the amount of machine-generated plastic-beats and mediocre tracks is too high for this album to be "great". To many skippers, too few memorable songs

Comment: I've always liked The Grouch & Eligh but this new G&E album is truly the worst album I've heard this year. They've official sold out with this garbage. R.I.P G&E! Haven't bothered listening to the other two discs after hearing how bad disc one is.
