Comment: First off, I'm a huge XO fan, along with Diamond District and the whole DMV movement. After keeping this album in heavy rotation since its release, there is a noticeable difference in the sound of the first half of the CD versus the second half. While I absolutely love the first half, I'm having trouble warming up to the second. Older songs like "Flowers" and "Good Vibes", etc. from mixtapes were what attracted me to XO's sound, and it feels like he strayed a bit from that on the second half of this project. The beats compliment his delivery well with longtime collaborator AB the Pro, but it would've been nice to throw in an Oddisee or Kev Brown track. Overall, a solid contribution to the current landscape of hip-hop, and while I'll continue to support my man XO, I was hoping for a little more. |
