Comment: This guy is a poser. This whole look and attitude is an image, it's very current and very Emo. Emo is short for emotional. It started as an offshoot of punk and like all good things (the fathers of emo are Fugazi) it got watered down and ruined by big labels. Emo music, which I am not a fan of, is emotional music with an almost goth look. It's a hybrid culture. Most of the songs are about how the guy can't seem to get the girl, the girls always lie and cheat on him, he doesn't understand them, etc. It's cynical music and at this point has very little to do with punk. Notice Cage said "the girls like it". Emo is mostly embraced by young girls who think the lyrics are sensitive and they feel bad for the "poor" band becase they're sensitive and have bad luck with girls. It's such a product it's not even funny. I have hosted many events for WFNX and the Emo shows are 75% young girls. Cage is going for that crowd. Atmosphere, who are a talented group (no not just because they're on my albums and no I am not Emo), created what is more or less Emo Hip Hop. I mean, they have album after album about the same girl and what a shitty girlfirend she was. College chicks worldwide are in love with Slug of Atmodphere. He's the official sex symbol of indie hip hop. He's made millions with that approach so God bless him. He's also honest while Cage is an actor. Emo bands include My Chemical Romance, Yellowcard, Say Anything and Fallout Boy. They all have the same formula: cynical and ironic lyrics to watered down punk music with a whiney singer. I mean these singers are really fucking whiney. If you've ever been somewhere and heard a rock record that sounded like Green Day with a bitch ass singer, thats's Emo. So...Cage is going for Emo. He's got the dark and mysterious (make up probably) eyes, the haircut, the attitude, the lyrics, everything. He's more Emo than Atmosphere in that Atmosphere doesn't look like an Emo rock band. This guy looks like he's the lead singer for My Chemical Romance. In short, Cage is a product. He's not real in any way. He used to be "crazy white guy hip hop man" with the drug, sex and gore lyrics. Now he's got the clothes and hair of an Emo boy. He's a phony. He's doing whatever is hot. A lot of hip hoppers can be accused of the same thing. Doing, dressing, acting like whatever is hot at the moment. I think that's lame too. But Cage has elevated it to new heigts of rediculousness. He's LAME. Funny how sampling is jacking other people's music but he only listens to old hip hop. Funny how he's got some modern roick bands on his album but he only listens to old rock. He's a fraud, always has been. He talked shit about Eso endlessly. Eso went there to NY to battle and Cage wouldn't do it. After that the whole Def Jux crew (except Lif and Ray Walls) went after Eso. Song after song after song against one indie rapper from Boston. Eso , one man, embarressed their whole crew song after song. It wasn't even close. He ripped them all. Can Ox even went so far as to not show up to a Boston show when that shit was going down. That whole crew is Emo at it's worst. They're all phony. Aesop Rock, Can Ox and the once promising El P can all eat a dick as far as I'm concerned.
