Comment: First of all, I gotta speak on something that's been going on for year now. Some cats continue to compare new Wu-Tang releases to the classics from 15 years ago. How can you compare music, let alone men to who they were 15 years ago?! Some cats will never understand these men have evolved into men with different lives, goals and perspectives. Wu-Tang was THE absolute best hip-hop group of their generation. Nobody can stay on top forever, that's how it is. And that's for the simple reason that most younger cats won't be able to relate to a bunch of 40 year old rappers. Music does transcends ages but not always and for everyone. If you compare this album, then compare it to other hip-hop of this time and then you will see that these are, maybe not classics, but still high quality releases. |

Besides the fact that's it's the Clan, their affiliates, and featured guest I honestly wasn't dissapointed with this album at all. Especially when NEVER FEEL THIS PAIN, 225 ROUNDS, ONLY THE RUGGED SURVIVE (Amen RZA), and that cool ass shit METEOR HAMMER (Termanology got down and Onyx, Pete Rock, Chuck D SHUT 'EM DOWN) stayed on repeat. Legendary Weapons was what I expected from the Wu-Tang Clan and who knows...maybe 20 or 30 years from now those brothas will probably still sound better than any new jack comin' out. I mean since 93' I'm damn near impressed with the consistency that each one of the members (and their affiliates) has lyrically when their rappin'...that's the cool shit about the Clan too. You could see a track with Masta Killa and Deck or U-God and Gza and anybody else from the Clan and you already know shit's gon'
be dope. Top that shit off with a bangin' ass beat and you got exactly what hip-hop music should sound like, classic and undeniably unforgetable. The Clan's style of rhyme is the same but they all bring an element to rappin' which makes anyone of the members stand out and makes them different from the next man in their group, hence the term seperate but equal. Talkin' about diversity, the Wu (except GFK) has not dropped a hot album since the late 90's. Their current sound lacks the energy/diversity/lyrical mastery that made them the most important rap group of the nineties. In my opinion "Legendary Weapons" is wacker than 36 Chambers, Wu Tang Forever and may be compared probably with the Iron Flag album. Wu has dropped, not a wack album, but yet again a disappointing one. It sounds more like a compilation. And with all due respect, where is GZA? The Genius doesn't appear on none of the "Legendary Weapons" tracks... Again, in my opinion that's wack. An Wu Tang album without The Gza? Come on... what the fuck is that? Comment: I'ont even see how people can shit on the Clan, I mean whether this album is good or not take this in consideration. The Wu has been in the game since '93, that's already damn near 20 years. Most early rap acts from 79'-87' aint even see another prosperous album or make the kinda money that most hip-hop artist made in '93 or even now. Look at Grandmaster Flash, Kool Moe Dee, Schooly D just to name a few. They were single acts in early hip-hop. Aint really see much of groups, crews, clicks, and clans until maybe the 80's (with the exception of Afrika Bambata and the Zulu Nation) my point is you can ask anybody from the West, to the East, the South, the North, damn near worldwide and ask 'em to name 5 of the greatest rap groups ever put together I bet you they holla Wu-Tang. I'ont really give a fuck about what they had or don't have now cause we all have our share of fucked up days. I'm looking at it as far the legacy them dudes left and the mark they made in hip-hop culture period. That's a dope as tale of the tape and you can't talk blasphemy on that one! Comment: For everybody... 8 Diagrams was the best they had done since Wu-Forever. Iron Flag was peace as well but it wasn't what I expected. They may have outdone themselves on WU4Evr. That was as close to taking over the world as any HipHop collective will ever be... EVER. Nothing was doper or more poignant at the time and if the militia had formed I would have headed our local chapter. That album was landmarking. THIS... this here better be RZA's return to WU-TANG. I for one still think Rae, Masta, and Inspektah Deck are beast lyrically so to me they don't need to follow or study any of these new jack rap acts' formulas. Ever since then, the albums they have put out are not really up to par and the old wutang sound disappeared. With that being said, I do think that all of the members can come together and make a dope album IF everyone is on the same page and the beats are consistent/grimy. I.E Raekwon (shaolin vs wu tang). That album was well put together. lyrics and beats were consistent. the only beef I have with that album is the guest spots but all in all it was great album. If this new Wu album can follow suit, then I think everyone will be pleased. After all, Wu-tang clan aint nothin to f*** wit!! |
